Lessons Learned: Implementing Harm Reduction Strategies to Support Youth and Families Impacted by Trafficking

October CSEC Action Team Learning Opportunity

Join us virtually on Tuesday, October 22nd from 1:30-3:00 PM (PST) for an interactive workshop on applying harm reduction (HR) as a leading practice for engaging and supporting young people and families impacted by commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and other forms of trafficking. This session will highlight recurring challenges surfaced by practitioners across disciplines and provide practical guidance on applying HR principles in daily practice.

HR moves beyond traditional, often punitive approaches by emphasizing person-centered care, reducing immediate and long-term risks, and building trust while respecting the agency of youth and families. This framework is increasingly recognized as essential for professionals across child welfare, probation, mental health, public health, and community-based organizations.

What We’ll Cover:

  • Core Principles of Harm Reduction – How HR can be applied to support youth and families at risk of or experiencing trafficking.
  • Live Consultation – field experts will provide live feedback and assistance to a provider supporting a young person
  • Actionable Strategies – Specific examples of HR approaches that professionals can incorporate into their daily work.
  • Addressing Barriers and Building Confidence – Tactics to overcome common fears and systemic challenges when implementing HR
  • Q&A – to support practical application
